Lorna and I went down to Hiller's Creek for a picnic lunch today. After lunch I set up my camera and started to work. Lorna wandered off with the dogs to see what fish she could find. She had seen a Long-nosed Gar last week and was hoping to see another one.
Instead she found a huge River Birch (betula nigra) that had died and fallen in the creek. River Birch has wonderful copper color and it forms thin sheets that peel off. She brought me a sheet and showed me that with the sun behind it that it glowed like stained glass. We stopped everything and went to work taking pictures. This was the first one that I worked up.
